Faith

Today’s Scripture…

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Thoughts…

Faith

1. complete trust or confidence in someone or something.

2. strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.

In the dictionary, these two entries are meant to be two different ways to use the word faith. I don’t see them that way. As a matter of fact, I would put the two together. Faith is complete trust, confidence and belief in someone or something, like God, based on apprehension rather than proof.

My faith in God goes much farther than just belief. I have complete trust and confidence in Him. Although I need no proof in His existence, I see it everyday in His handiwork all around me. It is in the beauty of His creation, which includes you!

Prayer…

Lord, I love you and I have complete faith in You! ~amen

Take My Hand

Today’s Scripture…

Philippians 4:5-7

5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Thoughts…

I have a passion for people who suffer with PTSD, anxiety and depression. Those who have hit the bottom of the pit and think their only way out is suicide. My purpose is to sit with them in that pit and hold on to them. Let them know they are not alone. Together we can climb out. Together we can fight against the darkness. But, until they are ready to fight back, I will sit with them, so they are not alone.

My purpose in life comes from traveling that road and setting in that very pit myself. That pit is no joke. It is dark, lonely, and things fly at you, whisper to you. You wonder if you will get out this time. If you will ever see the sun again.

When I find myself falling down that hole, I cling to verses like these in Philippians. One way, to counter it is by repeating these verses until I believe them. Then light starts to flicker and grow. Before long, it bursts through that pit and shows me the way out.

It is so dark you may not see Him, but you are NEVER alone in that pit. Keep searching. The Lord is right there by your side. He will hang on to you when you can’t hang on anymore.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for always hanging on to me! ~amen

Let Your Heart Live

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 69:30-32

30 I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hooves. 32 The poor will see and be glad—you who seek God, may your hearts live!

Thoughts

Do you want true happiness today? I have got the secret, ‘Let your heart live!’ How do you do that? Well let me tell you, it has nothing to do with getting anything. It has nothing to do with others doing or stop doing this to or for you. No, it has everything to do with you and one little choice. You simply choose to be thankful.

Yes, the key to true happiness is simply, You Choose It! Count your blessings! As Charles Dickens once said, “Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”

We all go through hardships and trials, but if that is all we concentrate on we will never be happy. Today, choose to praise God in song and glorify him with thanksgiving and let your heart live!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for the many blessings you have given me. ~amen

Constantly In Our Prayers

Today’s Scripture…

Romans 1:8-10a

8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world. 9 God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you 10 in my prayers at all times;

Thoughts…

I come from a military family. WWII, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, all saw my family members’ service. Even now, I have a son, and son-in-law serving overseas.

Many countries honor their veterans today. I believe the biggest honor we can pay them is constantly keeping them and their families in our daily prayers.

I know today’s verses are talking about Christians in Rome to whom Paul is writing. I think we should take the time to extend this thanks to God for those who have chosen to serve to restore and keep peace in our world. We should constantly remember them all in our prayers at all times.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for each man and woman who stepped up to serve in the military. Please keep them and their families safe and provide for their needs. ~amen

His Love Endures Forever

Today’s Scripture…

1 Chronicles 16:34-35

34 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 35 Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise.”

Thoughts…

Giving thanks to the Lord, for He is Good. His love endures forever. Not only does it endure, but it does not change! There is nothing you can do to change His love for you. Nor, can anyone else do anything to change His love for you. His loves endures forever and everyone.

That is a wonderful thought. There is no middle child, oldest child, or youngest child love. There is no rich and powerful verses poor prejudice. There is no you are not enough. There is no someone else is more!. You are loved yesterday, today, and tomorrow, right where you stand. His love is there waiting for you to accept it.

Now that is a reason to give thanks to the Lord!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for always loving me no matter what! ~amen

You Will Go Out in Joy

Today’s Scripture…

Isaiah 55:12

12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Thoughts…

This verse is so poetic. I am looking out the window right now. The sun is shining there is a beautiful breeze waving through the trees. The sounds of the leaves rustling is so peaceful. It is the full picture of this verse. Nature is transitioning from fall into winter. It is going out in joy and being led forth in peace.

We go through many transitions in our lives. It is our choice how we go through them. Will you moan, groan, and throw a tantrum? Perhaps you will choose to transition with grace. Today I choose to go out with joy and be led forth in peace; allowing the mountains and hills to burst into song before me, and all the trees of the field clap their hands.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for seeing me through my transitions in life. I know they are not comfortable, but I can choose to go through them with grace. ~amen

Who Could Ask for Anything More?

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 103:1-5

1 Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Thoughts…

Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases? Who redeems your life from the pit? Who crowns you with love and compassion? Who satisfies your desires with good things?

Can you just take a moment and read that paragraph again. What else do we really need? The bottom line is God is there for you with whatever your need and whenever you need it.

They key word there is “need”. He is not there with whatever you want, whenever you want it. Even verse 5 says “satisfies your desires with good things”. I may think I need a new car. I may want a brand new SUV. However, I am not living on a budget that can support that SUV. God will give me what is good for me when the time is right.

It is important to remember to thank God for being there for us. He is always ready to jump in and help. He will provide you with what is best for you!

Prayer…

Lord, I just want to take this moment to thank you for knowing what is best for me in your perfect timing. ~amen

Kindness To Get You Through

Today’s Scripture…

Isaiah 63:7

7 I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us—yes, the many good things he has done for Israel, according to his compassion and many kindnesses.

Thoughts…

Today’s test is tomorrow’s testimony! I am not sure where I first heard this. Anyone who knows me, knows it is one of my my favorite sayings! It is the hope I stand on when storms start to roll.

When I look back at what I have been through, I reflect on God’s kindness. I can see how He got me through it all. I thank Him for being with me every step.

When troubles come snooping around, I can remember what God has already gotten me through. I know He will get me through this also, Today’s storms bring tomorrow’s flowers!

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for all of your kindness. You have been by my side and will always be there. ~amen

The Fight is On!

Today’s Scripture…

Colossians 3:14-15, 17

14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Thoughts…

Let the peace of Christ rule! Boy, if only the world could follow that little piece of advice. News media wouldn’t have anything to write about…lol

Real peace is not something that happens around you. It is a choice you make within you. Read that again…it…is…a…choice…YOU…make! It is not easy. Somedays you have to put those boxing gloves on and fight for it. However, it is worth the fight.

That sounds counterintuitive. You have to fight for your peace. Believe me when I say, Satan is going to throw every punch he can to keep you feeling ‘unpeaceful’. You are in a fight for your life. So, gear up Rocky! It is time to step in that ring and show him who is boss!

Prayer…

Lord, I am so glad my peace does not depend on others. Your peace is always waiting for me to choose it. ~amen.

God is Still on the Thrown

Today’s Scripture…

Ephesians 5:19-20

19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,

20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thoughts…

“Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs” is a beautiful thought. I pray today that no matter who wins the election or what passes or doesn’t on the ballot, we can all speak to each other kindly tomorrow.

We will never get everything we want all of the time. We will not always agree on everything. However, we can always talk to each other with respect and kindness. It doesn’t take a lot. It is not expensive. All you do is say congratulations on your win and then move on with your life.

No matter what happens today, God is still on the thrown. He is still the Father of everything and loves you, will not leave you or forsake you. So spread some of his love around.

Prayer…

Lord, thank you for still being on the thrown no matter what government decisions are made.
