Victory

Revelation 21:7
Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

Victorious means to win a victory, be triumphant. Other synonyms include: conquering, vanquishing, winning, champion, and successful. It does not mean perfect and get it on the first try. To be victorious means you faced a battle of some sort.

Thomas Edison has many quotes on victory.
“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”
“Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.”
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is to try just one more time.”
My personal favorite is, “When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this – you haven’t.”

The point in all of this is victory doesn’t happen over night. It isn’t being perfect all of the time. It is a battle we all fight every single day. There will come a day when God says our battles are over and if we have been faithful and never gave up, we will be victorious and inherit all God has for us.

Lord, give me the strength to carry on in life. I want to be victorious and inherit all You have for me. ~amen

No More Tears

Revelation 21:4
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Johnson and Johnson runs an add campaign stating their shampoo guarants no more tears. Let me tell you, you get enough of that stuff in your eyes, you still have tears and lots of them. I have a guarantee for you, you are not going to get through this lfie with no more tears.

Our lives are filled with heartache because we are not robots. We were given emotions. We all react to things differently. You may not have actual tear duct producing salty water falling from your eyes, but your spirit still cries. Why? Because bad things happen in our world. We see death, we morn, and we have pain. This will not always be so, I can also guarantee that!

A day will come when God will say enough is enough. He will wipe away every tear from all our eyes. We will not experience death or morning or crying or pain. For now, hang in there and know you are not alone. We all mourn and we can mourn together. God will be our strength to see us through.

Lord, we may not be able to get through this life without tears, but a day will come when your promise will be fulfilled. For now, thank You for being my rock and strength to see me through rough times. ~amen

No More Seas

Revelation 21:1
1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.

Some people believe Revelations is literal, others believe it is symbolic and there is more than meets the eye. I want to preface this blog with the fact that this is totally my opinion. After much prayer, this is what i felt God was telling me about today’s verse.

The one thing that stuck out to me today was that there was no longer any sea. The sea was the divide for people of that day and age. It seemed insurmountable or uncrossable. No one knew what was on the other side. It separated them. I took this verse to mean there would be no more separation. We will all come together. There will be nothing left to divide us, no ideas that make us fuss and fight with each other. We will be as one, the way that it was always meant to be from the beginning.

Can you imagine a place where there is no longer division. No more news or social media or politics to give us fuel to hate one another. I don’t know about you, but count me in! I am so ready to say good-bye to this world and step into that new heaven and earth!

Lord, I long for the day where there is no more division among our people. ~amen

Peace + Joy = Hope

Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

True joy and peace cannot be manufactured. These are fruits of the Spirit. They are given to us by God. They are not just feelings or state of minds. Joy and peace are what we find in the middles of our storm and in our everyday mundane lives. They are not fleeting moments like the happiness from eating your favorite chocolate bar (OK, the chocolate bar may just be me.)

These times of joy and peace give us hope for the future. NO matter what our circumstances God can and will come to the rescue with joy and peace. This joy and peach then lead to that glimmer of hope that you will get through. That glimmer ripples out and grows bigger and bigger. Before you know it, you are ready to face down that circumstance and conquer it!

All I have left to say is, may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, thank You for Your joy and peace that lead to overflowing hope! ~amen

Challenge Accepted!

Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

When I read today’s verses, the first thing that popped in my mind was, “Go big or go home!” Seriously, it reads like a challenge from Paul, doesn’t it? Kind of a what do you have to lose, just do it, kind of challenge. Paul was pretty good with the pre-game pep talks!

The moment you are outed as a Christian, the world is watching you. They want to see if you can walk the walk, talk the talk and all that jazz. So why not show them all you got! What is it you got, you may ask? You got JESUS! He is the perfecter of our faith. That means when we do screw up, we have grace! What the world really needs to see is that grace. We need the world to see it is OK that we AND they don’t have to be perfect. They just have to keep running the race.

No one walking into a church is ever perfect. No one sitting in a pew (or behind a pulpit) is ever perfect. No one who walks out of that church is perfect. As Christians, we are just made perfected by the blood of Jesus. We thank God every day that we may not be where we need to be, but we aren’t where we used to be either. So stop watching and listening to the world and their opinions and keep those eyes focused on the only One that matters. Shut the crowd out and keep running the race!

Lord, challenge accepted! Let’s run this race! ~amen

Light in the Darkness

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

In Him there is no darkness at all. None! Zilch! Nada! THere is a place is so wonderful that it contains, no hate, no pain, no anxiety, no fear, no darkness of any kind. It is filled with just pure light. Only hope, peace, faith, joy, and love exists there. Can your brain for even one nano second wrap itself in that feeling?

That is a thought and a verse that are very dear to my heart and I hang on to very tightly. My depression can lead down a very dark road. I, like David in various places of the Pslams refer to it as the pit. It is a place where no light can seem to get through. It is in that spot, I remember, God is light. He is there with me. I just need to walk in Him. I need to search for Him. I need to hang on to that hope. When I do the Son does shine again and gets brighter and brighter and eventually dispels the darkness.

If you ever find yourself in a dark spot in your life, cling to this verse. Write it on your heart. Memorize it. It will be a lifeline you don’t ever want to be without.

Thank You Lord for being my light in the darkness. ~amen

Play Nice!

Philippians 4:5
Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

I am sure if I go back and read over my blog history I will see a theme. I also know I will see that theme because it is still and issue that God is working on with me. That theme is simple. Be gentle to yourself.

This verse states let your gentleness be evident to ALL. Yes, you are included in that ALL. When you are beating yourself up you are beating up on God’s child. Now STOP. . . don’t even think about beating yourself up for beating yourself up. Don’t fall for that rabbit hole Satan is trying to drag you down.

There is a place for tough love. You do need to tell yourself to suck it up and move on sometimes. However, you do that with love. You don’t shame yourself. You don’t hate on yourself. You do what Jesus would do. You give yourself some grace. You dust yourself off, hug yourself and face that world again.

Let your genteleness be evident to even you!

Lord, I need to treat myself with gentleness. I am sorry for beating up on Your child. ~amen

I Don’t Wanna Grow Up!

1 Corinthians 13:11
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

What the world needs now is more adults reading this verse. Not just reading it, but living it. There seems to be a lot of people who feel the need to throw tantrums when they don’t get their way. Lack of respect and discipline has left us with an “all about me” mentality. No one wants to adult anymore!

Adulting is not easy.  There are so many responsibilities. One of the biggies is teaching the next generation how to become adults. Not an easy task when society overloads them with bad role models and inundates then with this “Me First” notion. It isn’t just entertainment or social media, political figures are just as bad.

It is time we all stood up and said enough is enough. It is time to be adults. We come to Christ as little children. Let’s go out into the world as adults. This is one area where your actions will speak so much more than words. Time to put those big boy/girl undies on and do some adulting today!

Lord, I want to be an adult and teach the next generation what it means to adult in You. ~amen

Let Love Take Over

1 Corinthians 13:6-7
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

It is so easy to wish bad things to happen to others. I get so wrapped up in my pain and pity party, I forget that person I hate is still loved by God. I know He isn’t very happy with them. I know He hates the pain it caused, but He still loves them. It is a good thing too because tomorrow it just might be me that someone is hating.

Love is the only true justice that exists. It doesn’t seek out revenge. It looks for the truth. When the truth is found, it continues to love. Consequences may have to be paid, but love hopes and perseveres in the idea that all will be well. Love protects all, all of the time. Through love, relationships can be mended and made stronger.

Bottom line is, if we dwell in love we have no room for hate. No matter what happens with the other person, we can live in peace. Love rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.

Lord when my anger starts to take over, remind me to love! ~amen
