Never Needs an Upgrade

Today’s Scripture

John 6:50-51, 58

But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Thoughts…

What did we do before the internet? Seriously? Yes, I was born before cellphones and the internet. No, I am not going to tell you how long before…LOL! Once upon a time, you had to call and leave messages, and that was only if you knew where the person was located. Email gave us more contact as long as the person checked it. Beepers gotta us a little closer to emergency contact. Cellphones became all the rage as they grew smaller and easier to carry. Then we entered the all mighty text messages. Oh my goodness. It is not so easy to hide anymore…lol!

Jesus has always been there. He is always the technology in our lives. There is nowhere you can go that He can’t reach you. There is no where you can’t reach Him. All you have to do is reach out to Him. He is our life line, 911, text message at the speed of life, always connected, never busy, never crashing and never needs an upgrade savior.

                   Can you hear Him now?!

                        You’ve got mail!

Planning Time

Today’s Scripture…

2 Corinthians 4:8-10

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

Thoughts…

I have always loved these verses. I lovingly call them the, “I get knocked down, but I get up again. You are never  gonna keep me down” verses (Tubthumping by Chumbawamba). Yep! You can sing these verses to Satan any time you want!

Did you know Satan has a planner all set up and ready to go with dates and tactics he wants to use on you? He has all his strategies ready to go. However, God isn’t sitting back waiting for him to make his move.

God set a plan in place a long time ago. He put into a action from day one. As a matter of fact it is no secret. His plan has been out in the open all of the time. His planner is the bible. It has never changed and it never will.

On the other hand, Satan’s planner is constantly scribbled in, crossed out, torn up and thrown out. Be cause unlike us, he’ll knocked down, and not get up again. God will forever keep him down!

The Sum of it All

Today’s Scripture…

Hebrews 7:25-27

Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself.

Thoughts …

Here is a math problem for you: 3 nails + 1 cross = 4-given. I am not sure you fully understand the significance of that problem. Prior to Jesus, they were constantly doing sacrifices. There were daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, and even situational sacrifices that had to take place. Doves, goats, cows all gave their lives so people could be cleansed from their sins. Seriously people, there are not enough hours in the day or animals around to cleanse all of us now.

I am trying to open your eyes to exactly what it means. Without Jesus’ sacrifice, there is no mathematical amount of deeds you could or can do to make yourself righteous. You are not righteous! Jesus was the only one who was righteous. He was completely, 100% clean of 100% all sin. Even on a good day, I bet statistically speaking, we might squeak out with a 50% clean.. we are sinners by nature.

Jesus decided a long time ago to cover that other 50% for us. He agreed to be our one time sacrifice that would cover the rest of our debt. We owe nothing. He paid our admission to Heaven. All we have to do is accept it. Now that is 100% satisfaction guaranteed!

Be a Biohazard

Today’s Scripture…

2 Timothy 1:6-10

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

Thoughts…

In school we learn a chemical reaction, is a process in which one or more substances, the reactants, are converted to one or more different substances, the products. A fancy way of saying, one or more chemicals are changed into one or more other chemicals. It is like when you mix vinegar and baking soda. Separately, they are perfectly happy sitting on your shelf in the pantry. Mix them together and boom, what a mess!

We can set in our pews and live what we think is a comfy little life. However, mix in a little Holy Spirit and we just bubble over with God’s love. We begin to witness. We share God’s love and the reaction spills over to others. Suddenly the Spirit starts bubbling in them! This is what we were made for, not to just sit in a pew.

Are you ready today to shake things up? Will you let God create a reaction in you? The Holy Spirit plus you equals a chemical reaction that is nuclear and a biohazard to Satan.

Times Up!

Today’s Scripture…

Psalms 110:1, 5-7

The LORD says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”The Lord is at your right hand; he will crush kings on the day of his wrath. He will judge the nations, heaping up the dead and crushing the rulers of the whole earth. He will drink from a brook along the way, and so he will lift his head high.

Thoughts..

God’s timing is perfect. It is not easy to sit and wait. It is not easy to watch good people get trampled on while evil seems to succeed. You start to wonder where God is and why is He letting this happen.

The most important thing to remember when you are in this situation is breathe. Be still and know He is Lord. He is right next to you.. He is in control. His timing is perfect and complete. He will never leave you. He will not forget you.

I promise that clock will keep moving, until God is ready. However, that alarm will go off. Time will stop for Satan and his evil plots. Your enemies will be judged. As a matter of fact, his time is running out and he knows it. Try as he might, he cannot turn back time or slow it down. He can’t even add a single second to it.

So, let’s remind Satan, “Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking, into the future.” (Fly Like an Eagle by Seal) and I know what happens when it stops!

How Do You Choose a Book?

Today’s Scripture…

Matthew 25:44-46

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Thoughts…

We bookworms are notorious  for picking up just about anything and reading it. Then there are other’s who pick up a book look at the cover, flip,it over and read the back, finally open it up and read a few pages. Then they decide if they want to read it. There is also another group that looks at the cover and decides right there if they will enjoy the book.

Christians often come in those packages also. Some people take one look at someone and stick their noses in the air. Others are cautious and think they need to see if the other person is worthy of being loved. Others just open their hearts and arms and want to share God’s love with everyone.

In these verses, Jesus is pointing out the type of attitude we need. We look for those moments we can reach out to others. We don’t judge. We don’t choose who deserves God’s love. We show and share His love to everyone. Don’t forget, once upon of time, someone picked up your book and just began reading too.

Welcome to a New Day

Today’s Scripture…

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Thoughts…

As a teacher, I often remind my students (and sometimes myself) that each day is a new day. We leave what happened yesterday there and move on to today.. Do bad on a quiz? No problem! Attitude and behavior was not the greatest? No problem! Today is new and fresh. Let’s try again.

Our old lives before God were not great. We could all probably write a novel about our sins. We must remember those chapters are finished. That book is finished, closed, put back on the shelf, never to be read again. We have been washed, sanctified, justified in the name of Christ, by the Spirit of God.

So lift your head high. Don’t allow Satan to throw your past at you. Throw the book back at him and remind him he has no new day!

Just One More Question

Today’s Scripture…

2 Peter 3:9-13

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Thoughts…

I can be mighty quick with questions. I can even fire off lots of them at once. I am really not patient when I want my questions answered! I am sorry to admit, I am not any more patient waiting for an answer from God. Good thing He loves me…LOL!

God is not slow in answering our requests or questions. His timing is perfect. He knows at times we are not ready for the answer. Other times, He has a better answer if we can just wait it out. His plans are perfect for us.

His plans include being very patient and filled with grace. His hope is that none should perish. However, one day there will be an end to that patience. There is an end time. A day will come where we run out of time. Will you be ready? Are you ready now? We don’t know when this will happen. We must always be prepared by living godly lives just as God instructed.

One thing is for certain. We should look forward to the end. We will be with God and I for one won’t have to bug Him with my questions anymore because they will all be answered.

Paint My Picture

Today’s Scripture

Jeremiah 29:11-13

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Thoughts

When I sit down to paint, I may be staring at a blank canvas but my mind is already seeing the beautiful picture in front of me. I can see all the details and colors. My husband comes up behind and is confused. He has no idea where I am going. Even when I put my brush to the canvas and he watches it swish around, it takes awhile to see an image appear. It isn’t until I am totally finished that he can see the same image which was in my head the entire time.

Our life is very much like my painting. God has this perfect image in His head. He sees every single detail and knows exactly how to make each stroke swish across the canvas. We simply need to sit back and follow the picture emerge. It does us no good to grab His had or steal the brush. The painting will not come out right. He knows the plans He has for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Let the artist paint your picture!

Humpty Dumpty

Today’s Scripture

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Thoughts

Reconciliation! What a wonderful word! Clean slate! To be forgiven, made new! When we became Christians, we were reconciled.  God excepted us just as we were and made us perfect.  Perfectly forgiven that it. He polished us up. He glued all our pieces back together and filled the cracks. As a matter of fact, He continues to day that today.

Things come along that shatter our world. The break us to pieces. We have no fear though. We are dearly loved by God and He is always waiting close by with the glue to put us back together. Somedays, I begin to fill a little like Humpty Dumpy! Yes, all the King’s horses and all the King’s men can’t put me together again, but the King can!

God has reconciled Himself to us through the superglue of all glues…Christ. I don’t know about you but I am excited to be stuck to God. Better yet, I am excited He is stuck to me!
