Forgiveness

Matthew 6:14-15

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Is there anything more annoying than kids titling on each other? Well, maybe one more thing a bunch of politicians running ads tattling on each other instead of telling you where they stand. Hmmm . . . I think I see a similarity. . . LOL!

What would your life be like if God went around pointing out all of your sins and refusing to forgive you for them? What would it be like to never be forgiven for anything you did? Now, I know you may be thinking but Tabetha, I have never done what this particular person did to me! You don’t understand! You are so correct. You may have not, but God doesn’t organize sins as we do. He sees them all the same.

Now your next excuse may be that they will never say they are sorry. Pretty sure that was left out of Matthew 6. That is not a priority. Forgiveness is not a two-way street. As a matter of fact, you are only responsible for your side of the street. In order to keep it cleaned up you need to offer apologies and forgiveness.

I want to make one last statement. Jesus had been wrongly accused, beaten, humiliated, and put to death. What were some of His last words? Oh, yeah, “Father forgive them.” So what will be your words today?

Lord, forgive them for they know not what they do. ~amen

The Real Thing

Amos 5:14

Seek good, not evil,
that you may live.
Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you,
just as you say he is.

Can you spot a counterfeit bill? How about a fake purse or other knockoffs? I wore a knockoff pair of sunglasses for a year before I realized they weren’t real. The only reason I figured it out was because they broke and I needed a new pair. I went to the actual company to replace them and they told me they never made ones like that. It is not easy spotting what is real.

Did you know that deceives that are trained to find counterfeit money rings are never trained with counterfeit money? Well, that would seem odd wouldn’t it? I mean how are they supposed to find the bad stuff when they have never seen it? They only study the good stuff. They study the real money. They know it backwards, forwards, and inside out. They know it so well they can pick out the imitation immediately.

Do you want to know God and be able to discern the deception in your life? Well then study Him. Seek good, not evil. Avoid the evil. Poor your heart into God. Don’t go looking for trouble, avoid it. Believe you me, it comes looking for you all of the time. However, you keep your eye on the real thing, and you will spot the fake a mile away!

Lord, I will seek you! ~amen

Don’t Shout, Shine!

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

“Shout! Shout! Let it all out.” (Tears for Fears). OK, this may work when you are stressed out and need to just let it all go, but it is not going to work when you want to tell someone about Jesus, most of the time at least.

You want to know the number one way to tell people about Jesus? Yep, you guessed it. Live it! Do you know the old saying about a picture is worth a 1000 words? Well, my dearest that is true about planting and watering the seeds of Jesus.

You need to let your light shine. Show people what God is doing in your life. I promise people will start asking questions. If nothing else people will almost always start asking you for prayer requests because they know you have the ear of God. That is when the door is open. You pray with them!

Please don’t stop talking to people when the Spirit prompts you. However, every moment of every day you can be living by example. Yes, that means showing them how we do things when we screw up. Remember, you don’t have to shout, just shine!

Lord, help me shine Your light today so that others may see what You have done and want to find You. ~amen

Trust

Proverbs 3:5

Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

Ok, so you have read Proverbs 3:5. At first you think, wow, yes this is what we do! Then you read it again and start to think, hmmm, this may not always be so easy. Then you read it for the third time and you start to shake in your boots as they say. Your head starts to go through all the what-ifs. Your heart starts to pound. Yep, you think this is not so easy.

Can I ask you a couple of questions? Did you get up and walk to the bathroom this morning? Did you make a cup of tea or coffee? Did you get in your car and start it? Well if so let me ask you this? Do you know exactly how all the little systems, tendons, bones, and ligaments worked to get you out of bed and to that bathroom? Do you know all that goes into making your tea or coffee? Do you know exactly how every single piece of your car works that made it start and go this morning? Did you just TRUST that all those things would work? Hmmm . . .🤔

Well then if you can trust all of those things that we know break down, why is it so hard to trust a God that never breaks down? Just a thought for today.

Lord, I trust You with my life! ~amen

Overthinking

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Do you want to alleviate over half of your stress? Do you want to drop over half of your burdens? Are you tired, worn out, overwhelmed with trouble? Well, I can help you. I can give you back your life, your vitality, and yes, even your smile. For just $29.99 plus shipping and handling, I can make your life better. But wait there’s more . . . LOL!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. When I started typing the first sentence it just sounded like an infomercial. But seriously, I do have an answer for you. It is a pretty big and hard pill to swallow and no it won’t cost you a thing. The answer is quit worrying about tomorrow. Listen, Psychology Today says we make about 35,000 decisions a day (2018). Considering you are awake about 18 hours a day, that is about 2000 per hour. Dude, we really don’t have time to add any more. So, why borrow from tomorrow’s decisions?

I know this is all easier said than done. But I want you to try this today. Every time a worry about tomorrow pops into your head repeat Matthew 6:34 and then say that is a decision for God and future me to figure out. For today, we have 35000 other decisions to make!

Lord, I think I will take Your advice over Fleetwood Mac. I think I will stop thinking about tomorrow because I know it will soon be here with its 35000 decisions for You and I to tackle. ~Amen

Harm

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

We are going to have a totally real moment today. Not that all my other blogs aren’t real. Today, I want to talk about one of the most quoted bible verses. I want to talk about Jeremiah 29:11. You may not have known where this verse was found, but I am guessing you have heard it quoted.

The part that gets me is the “not to harm you”. Have you ever noticed God’s definition of harm is different than yours? I know God has plans for me, like the many times I waited fretting and anxious for that phone call saying I got the job. What about all those painful circumstances I have lived through, or illnesses I have fought? Seriously, were they not harmful?

Here is a secret behind those words. You have to finish the verse, “plans to give you hope and a future”. God’s plan is to get you through these circumstances the world throws at you. He doesn’t want to see you harmed. He wants to give you the tools to conquer them. So, yes He has plans for us. He has a destination. Yes, we are going to face unpleasant and even painful times in the broken sin-filled world. So buckle in, take that leap, get out of that boat! God has plans to see you through whatever adventure is heading your way!

Lord, this life is painful. The world plots harm, but You have plans to see me through it. My hope is in You, ~amen

Love Like There’s No Tomorrow

Psalms 90:12

Teach us to number our days,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

What does it mean to number our days? Well, when I read Psalms 90:12 I immediately thought it isn’t enough to survive life. We really need to learn to live it. We need to enjoy life as if it is the last day we will spend here on Earth.

None of us knows the day or hour Jesus will return. We also don’t know the day or hour we will leave this Earth. So, why should we waste any of our time holding on to regret, anger, frustration, and negativity? If you knew today was your last day, would you spend it fighting with someone or loving them? Would you beat yourself up for all the things you didn’t do or try to spend time doing things? Would you live like you couldn’t fail?

So, let me ask you this. Why are you waiting and putting all of these things off as if you have lots of time in front of you? Don’t be lazy! Do procrastinate. Take the time to start filling your heart today. You need to live every moment as if it is your last. That is what numbering my days means to me. I am not guaranteed any time, so I will fill what I have with God’s love and share it as often as possible!

Lord, help me love like there is no tomorrow! ~amen

Finding Joy in Rule #39

Isaiah 43:16-17

16 This is what the LORD says—
he who made a way through the sea,
a path through the mighty waters,
17 who drew out the chariots and horses,
the army and reinforcements together,
and they lay there, never to rise again,
extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

I once heard a story about a college student who was in a discussion with a college professor. The professor insisted science had proven the place where the Israelites crossed the Jordan River was only about ankle high, so there was no real miracle. The student began smiling and said, “Praise the Lord!” The professor, now completely confused asked why in the world the young man was so excited when he had just disproved God’s supposed miracle. The student replied, “Because you just proved that the entire Egyptian army was drowned in just a couple of feet of water and that Sir, is quite a miracle!”

It is a sad life if you don’t believe in miracles. Miracles are all around us every single day. If you want to find long-lasting joy in your life acknowledge those miracles. Sometimes they are as simple as finding that close parking spot on a rainy day. Other days, it is watching your son play soccer who was told 6 months previous that he would never walk again. You can try to explain them away as coincidences, but not me. I am a firm believer in Rule #39 from Gibbs on NCIS, “There are no coincidences.” There may be reasons I don’t understand, but God sees them all and knows all the possible outcomes. He knows how to place miracles all around me. Today I choose to seek joy by recognizing them and giving thanks to God for each of them!

Lord, I want to acknowledge You today for the many miracles you put in my life. Thank You! ~amen
