2 Corinthians 3:17
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Where is the Spirit of the Lord? Is it around me anywhere? We are approaching another season of resolutions. Many will shoot for the same promise they made last year. They will stick with it for January and then February comes. What is it about February? Why does it derail everyone? Why do we give up our freedom from that bad habit? Is it because we can’t find the Spirit of the Lord? Does the Spirit leave us because the calendar changes to February?
No, the Spirit is always there, even in December before we make those resolutions and it will be there in February when we give up on them. The problem is we spend January ignoring the Spirit in the first place. We make these promises and go out on our own to accomplish them. The only way to find freedom is to go to the one who can grant it in the first place. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
So, I am going to prose a New Year’s resolution. I say we turn all those resolutions over to the Lord this year. We learn to walk in His steps and by His guidance. We stumble. We let His arms pick us up, dust us off, and we continue on our journey. We face down February with the freedom of not being perfect, but grace-filled.
Lord, my New Year’s resolution is to learn to live in Your freedom. ~amen
