Love for Scrooge

Scrooge McDuck sketched by Gracefilled Art

2 Timothy 3:1-5

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

I know, you are probably thinking, “OK Tabetha, this is a strange set of verses to choose on Christmas week.” However, may I point out that these verses embody Scrooge? So, I still have the Christmas spirit, sort of. . . LOL!

Actually, what I do want to point out is the last sentence. “Have nothing to do with such people.” Those seem like very harsh words. I mean, this world today preaches tolerance. God Himself said to love one another. So why would He say have nothing to do with such people? Does this mean there are people who are unreachable, unsavable? No! That is not what God meant at all.

Here is the thing. We can love people and not hang around to be abused by them. We can love people and not be besties with them. We can love people and certainly keep praying for them. We can let our light shine bright around them and not let them darken it.

Honestly, read that list again. Those losts souls are around us every single day. We can’t help but be around them. We can’t let them influence us. We can’t fall into their character traits. I love what a pastor once told me. Birds fly over our heads all of the time. It doesn’t mean we should let them nest in our hair. Oh, and don’t forget, even Scrooge was changed.

Lord, I pray for those individuals today who want nothing to do with You. Let my light shine bright to penetrate through their darkness. ~amen
