Try Being Salty

Colossians 4:5-6
5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

What would happen if everyone learned to speak with grace, seasoned with salt? Wait? What? Seasoned with salt? What in the heck does that mean?

Salt has been used for just about everything. If you don’t believe me check out the tips for using it on the Morton Salt Company’s website. It has been used for everything from preserving meat, adding taste, removing stains to healing a sore throat. Hmmm. . . those things could apply to a conversation. Shouldn’t we preserve our relationships, make them enjoyable, remove anything that stains them and promote healing? OK, so maybe salt does make sense.

Before you throw words out of your mouth at someone, anyone, ask yourself have I salted those words yet. Will these words preserve, add taste, remove stains or heal? If not you may want to go back to the cupboard before speaking!

Lord, please help me to be a little salty! ~amen
