Always Everything and Anything

Ephesians 3:11-12

11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Do you think you could call up the President and ask him to help find your car keys? What about your governor, mayor, or any other governing body? Would they come to your rescue immediately? Yeah, me either! The fact is they have too much to do to listen to your needs and act on them immediately. They may not even act on them at all, ever. They certainly aren’t going to do anything about your day to day needs or what we like to refer to as the petty little needs.

On the other hand, we serve a God who is ALWAYS there. Who is ALWAYS listening. Who is ALWAYS caring about anything that involves you. I do mean EVERYTHING and ANYTHING! He wants to know about your bad hair day to your prayers over your family, friends and enemies. We serve a God we can approach with freedom and confidence. We don’t have to leave a message or take a number. We just have to have faith and ask.

I am so grateful that you are ALWAYS there 24-7 to help me through EVERYTHING and ANYTHING! I put my faith in you Lord! ~amen

Who lost his keys?

Hebrews 2:14-15
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Can you imagine owning your home, but someone else controlling who unlocked and locked the doors? Well let me tell you, that is what Satan feels like. He may think Hell is his domain, but he has no control over who comes into his house because Jesus took the keys!

We have a wonderful God. He didn’t just sit up in His thrown looking down at us. No! He came to Earth to see what it was like to be us! When we go through anything He can say, “Been there! Done that and lived to tell the tale!” As if that wasn’t enough, He died and took our place to pay our bill for all our sins. He ascended into Hell, took one look at Satan and said, “Paid in full!” Then He was raised from the dead and returned to Heaven so we could follow. By doing this act of love, He took the keys away from Satan forever and we are set free from the prison of death!

Lord thank You for taking the keys away from Satan and allowing me to escape the prison of death. ~amen

Santa does not send…

Romans 8:24-25
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

When you were a. kid did you ever get up all excited on Christmas morning to open presents and then your mom handed you the squishy one? You know the one I am talking about. You knew it did not come from Santa even if she put his name on it. Santa does not send socks and underwear!

We don’t wait in anticipation and determination for things we already have. Why would we? Not that we don’t like what we have or appreciate it, we just have no need to hope for it. Hope is for those things we cannot see or touch, at least not right now.

Our hope in God is EVERYTING! It is that thing that feeling that keeps you moving and going. It makes you put in that little extra more. It tells you when you have given your all that there is still a little more to reach for and you do. Life would be nothing without our Hope in God. So, don’t let go of your hope. It is the gas that fuels everything in your life even if you are hoping for those new socks and underwear. Hmmm…I think I need to go shopping🤔

Lord my Hope is in You and it will never let me down and will always keep me going. ~amen

Good News

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,

These verses are from Luke but there were actually a prophecy written in Isaiah 61:1. Jesus stood up in the temple and read this prophecy about Himself out loud to the people.

This prophecy is still alive and well. It has been passed down to us. We are the ones with the Spirit of the Lord in us. We have been tasked with proclaiming the good news to the poor, freedom to the prisoners, recovering the sight to the blind, and setting the oppressed free. It is our job to introduce Christ to the world!

This is not the time to set back and complain about the world. It is time to stand up and bring Christ to change the world. It is time to proclaim the good news! Someone shared it with you and set you free, recovered your sight. Time to pass it on!

Lord, thank you for bringing someone in my life to share Your word with me Now I want to be that person in someone else’s life ~amen!

This or That

1 Corinthians 6:12
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.

I had no choice or I don’t have a choice. I don’t know how many times I have heard these excuses. Yes, that is exactly what they are too, excuses and not very good ones either. We always have a choice. We just may not like the consequences that come with that choice.

I recently read it is estimated that the average adult makes about 35,000 remotely conscious decisions each day. Each decision, of course, carries certain consequences with it that are both good and bad. Either way you go you made a choice.

With all of these choices there are thousands of things you could do. However, like the old saying goes, just because you can doesn’t mean you should. You need to be wise about you choices. Never let your choices enslave you. You are responsible for your choices. God gave you free will to make whatever choice you want. Use that mind to make the good ones and not just the easy out ones.

Thank You for letting me make choices and helping me make the right ones. ~amen

BIG DUH!

Galatians 5:13-15
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

I just want to publish a headline or send out a social media, email and snail mail notes to everyone on the planet. It would say, “Love your neighbor as yourself. If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” The problem is I am sure people still will not listen.

Look at the world. People are destroying each other left and right for anything and nothing at the same time. We live in a ‘me’ society. A society that puts itself first and does whatever it takes to satisfy its own desires. When are they going to wake up and realize they are getting nowhere!

I can’t change the whole world. However, I can change my own. I can start by changing me. I can love my neighbor as myself. How about you? Want to change the world with me?

Lord help me love my neighbor as myself.

Knights on Horses

Artist Unkown

Psalms 118:8
It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans.

“You know the bit, the lady fair and the knight on the white horse. Let me tell you something, it’s kind of dangerous putting those knights up on white horses. – They’re likely to slip off, you know” (Bob Wallace, White Christmas).

White Christmas is one of my favorite movies. I don’t just watch it at Christmas. As a matter of fact, I have it on right now as I curl up to write this blog. Bob (Bing Crosby) is telling Betty (Rosemary Clooney) that people aren’t perfect. Mistakes are made and misunderstandings happen. This of course is setting up the conflict that arises in the movie. Eventually, everything is worked out in the movie and Betty puts her knight back up on his stead.

We cannot put all our hopes and faith in other human beings. They will fail, just like we will fail them. This doesn’t mean we never trust or love someone. We just can’t put them in God’s place. He is only person that we can put up on the white horse. He will never fall off. He will never let us down. We have a shiny knight on a trusted white stead who will never fail us.

Lord, I need a knight right now and I am putting all my faith and hope in You.

Don’t Forget

James 1:23-25
23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

In one ear and out the other! Have you ever heard or said that phrase? I admit I have been on both ends of that conversation. I am pretty sure I even had that little talk with myself.

In today’s verses, we see the same concept. James talks about us knowing what is right and choosing to not do it. It creates that most horrific word that plagues Christianity – hypocrite! That is exactly what we become when we chose to turn our back on God.

Now We all make mistakes. James 5:16 tells us to confess your sins to one another and pray for one another. In other words, when we walk away from the mirror and forget who we are, we must return to it and find ourselves again. So adjust your crown in the mirror and go show the world just who you belong to today!

Lord, I don’t want to be just a hearer of Your word. I want to be a doer. ~amen

Knowledge is Dangerous

John 8:31-32
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

I recently read a blog from Rebecca Barlow Jordan. She talked about the “six truths about God that can change your life.”

  1. God’s love is unfailing (Jeremiah 31:3)
  2. God’s character is unchangeable (James 1:17)
  3. God’s power is unlimited (Luke :37)
  4. God’s forgives absolutely (Micah 7:19)
  5. God’s promises are unending (Deuteronomy 7:9)
  6. God’s sovereignty is unexplainable (Romans 11:33)

Satan knows the danger in this information. He is doing everything he can to keep it from you. The minute you know and fully understand these truths you will forever be set free from his grasp. You will come to understand there is nothing Satan can do to you that God cannot see you through. There is no power that can enslave you anymore. Death is no longer you destination.

You are a child of God. He loves you with everything He has. This truth you need to know. This truth will set you free.

Lord, help me share Your truth to others so they may be set free. ~amen

You’ve Got the Power!

Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,

You have been anointed! Yes, you! The day you said yes and accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior you became anointed by the Lord. His Spirit became a part of you and you a part of Him.

We must remember a statement Popularized by Spiderman’s Uncle Ben,“With great power comes great responsibility.” Our anointing comes with great responsibility. It is our job to bring the gospel to others. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

We are the hands and feet of God. Through us He will proclaim good news to the poor. He will bind the brokenhearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release the prisoners from the darkness. Are you ready to share God to the world? He will give you the power when you are ready for the responsibility.

Lord, I am thankful you chose me before I even knew You. With Your power I want to share You with the world. ~amen
