Intercede

Romans 8:26-28

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Intercede: to intervene between parties with a view to reconciling differences

What stands between the sand and a sand castle is the artist. Sand cannot just shape itself. It has no idea how to become a wonderful work of art. The artist begins interceding between what the sand is and what it will become by packing and shaping it until the castle stands tall in the sun. The Holy Spirit is and artist in our lives. We have no idea what we need or how to become what God wants. So, the Holy Spirit steps in and begins to pack and sculpt us. He intercedes to help us stand tall and proud in the Son!

Snare

Proverbs 29:25-27

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe. Many seek an audience with a ruler, but it is from the LORD that one gets justice. The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.

Snare – H4613 מוֹקֵשׁ môqēš, snare, trap, that which captures prey; by extension: ensnarement, entrapment (of a person)

When mom brings home the popsicles, everything is awesome. Then as time goes by, you get worried. Will you be trapped in that snare of dying for that cool sweetness only to open the freezer and be faced with just the green ones left!! LOL! As silly as this seems, our fear of man isn’t much better. We get trapped in the snare of anxiety when we fear things. I am not saying live your life like you are invincible. However, when we put our trust in the Lord and rely on His promises, we don’t have to let that fear turn into anxiety and rule our lives. No, fear, there are more orange popsicles. 🥰

Confident

2 Corinthians 5:6-10

Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

Confident – having strong belief or full assurance; sure: confident of fulfillment, sure of oneself; having no uncertainty about one’s own abilities, correctness, successfulness, etc.; self-confident; bold, trustful or confiding.

Night flying can be beautiful and frightening. “Lakes, rivers, railroads, and fields fade into blackness, while cities appear as crystalline mazes of lights” (Robert Rossier, AOPA). Pilots must have confidence in not only their instruments but also their own instincts. We don’t walk through life by sight. Yes, we see what is around us, but  we have faith that we are going to wake up, the car will start, we have a job to go to, we will return home…you get the idea. We are confident that God will navigate our day and get us through everything we face.

Acknowledge

1 John 4:15-17

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.

G3933 ὁμολογέω homologeō, to confess, acknowledge, agree, admit, declare; this can be a profession of allegiance, an admission of bad behavior, or an emphatic declaration of a truth

I love the sunshine, but I don’t love what it does to me. I know I have to use an umbrella and/or sunscreen to block out the bad parts. However, the bad parts don’t stop me from loving it. There are people in our lives that make them very hard to love. We often can’t even like them. However, with God inside of us, we can love them with His love. We can let God’s love shine through us on these people. I am sure we are not always the easiest people to love  either. Thank goodness God loves us anyway too!

Heart or Kidney

Psalms 16:1-2, 7-8

Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.” I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

H4000 כִּלְיָה kilyâ, kidney; by extension: inmost being: heart, mind, spirit, the seat of thought and emotion of the inner person; kernel (of wheat):

You know how when you eat watermelon., try as you may, you will always swallow at least one seed. David wanted a relationship like that with God. He wanted it to be impossible to be separated from Him. The word here used for heart is also the word for kidney. In essence, it represents his innermost being and deepest thoughts. David is saying, he wants to be so close to God, that even when he is asleep, his mind, heart, and soul is concentrating on God. He completely relies and God for everything. There is nothing and no one that will stop it. Good news! God feels the same way about us!

Redeem

Isaiah 43:1-2

But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Redeemed: H1457 גָּאַל1 gā’al1, to redeem, deliver; avenger; kinsman-redeemer; to be redeemed; to be redeemed, redeem oneself; often this redemption is in the context of saving from danger or hostility, as a figure of purchasing a slave or indentured person

I do not like bees! They sting me and I swell up. However, they redeem themselves every time I pour that luscious honey in my tea! I might even go as far to say, it is worth getting stung every now and then. To redeem means to do something so wonderful it makes up for something horrible. That horrible is our sin. That redeemer is Jesus Christ. There is no way we can make up to God for all our sin. Jesus stepped in for us. He saved us from certain death. He paid our price so we could walk away as sweet as honey!

He Will Rescue You

2 Timothy 4:17-18

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

‘Rescue’ by Lauren Daigel

I hear you whisper underneath your breath

I hear your SOS, your SOS

I will send out an army to find you

In the middle of the darkest night

It’s true, I will rescue you

“The Lord will rescue me.” Notice it does not say the Lord will keep me far away from or stop it before it even reaches me. I am not saying there are not times God intervenes before the fact. I am sure there are times just like that. What this verse is telling us is we will face fires in our lives. God will help us face those fires and sometimes He will just put the fire out. It is up to us how we look at the fire when it first starts to blaze. Do we run screaming or do we grab the marshmallows!

Afraid

Psalms 56:3-4, 8-11

When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? Record my misery; list my tears on your scroll— are they not in your record? Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me

Afraid: H3707 יָרֵא1 yārē’1, to be afraid, be frightened; to revere, respect; to be awesome, be dreadful, be feared; to frighten, terrify, intimidate; in some contexts fear relates to terror and fright, in other contexts fear relates to honor, respect and awe

Have you ever went to a drive-in movie? There is nothing like a good old fashioned black and white scary movie on a big screen to get your heart pumping. If it happens to be ‘Abbott & Costello Meets Frankenstein’ all the better! The fear on the screen isn’t real. Most of the fear we face in life isn’t real. We simply create things in our head that we think ‘might’ happen. If we step back for a moment, and realize there is NOTHING that our God can’t handle, we will realize there is NOTHING to fear. There is nothing ANY monster in our life, no matter what it looks like, can stand in the presence of our God!

Generously

James 1:5-6

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

Generously: G607 ἁπλῶς haplōs, generously, without reserve

Have you every went on a picnic or prepped for a family cookout? Do you just pack or cook “enough” food? No, you go all out and put together a ton of food! So why if you know how to be generous, do you doubt God’s generosity? If you need wisdom, God has said just ask and believe; He will supply generously. So open up that picnic basket and let God fill it to overflowing with wisdom!

Delight

Psalms 37:3-6

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun

Delight: H6695 עָנַג ʽānag, to be delicate; to delight oneself, enjoy, to mock:– delight, find delight, delicate, enjoy, find joy

Take delight! Over the last few months we have searched for reasons to take joy in life. Some people found it easier than others. For those who focused their joy on the Lord, definitely found it easier. When we put our trust in God, we know He will guide our way. He has a plan and when we follow it, it will lead us to safe pastures. The stream may be rough, the weather a little stormy. However, I can promise you when we paddle along with God our canoe will land safely on the shore.
