Redeem

Isaiah 43:1-2

But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Redeemed: H1457 גָּאַל1 gā’al1, to redeem, deliver; avenger; kinsman-redeemer; to be redeemed; to be redeemed, redeem oneself; often this redemption is in the context of saving from danger or hostility, as a figure of purchasing a slave or indentured person

I do not like bees! They sting me and I swell up. However, they redeem themselves every time I pour that luscious honey in my tea! I might even go as far to say, it is worth getting stung every now and then. To redeem means to do something so wonderful it makes up for something horrible. That horrible is our sin. That redeemer is Jesus Christ. There is no way we can make up to God for all our sin. Jesus stepped in for us. He saved us from certain death. He paid our price so we could walk away as sweet as honey!
