WSYD

Micah 6:8
But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously. (MSG)

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (NIV)

Thoughts…

Holman Concise Bible Commentary provides a little background on this verse. The final section of Micah begins with an indictment against Israel in the form of a lawsuit (6:1-8). Israel is charged with forgetting the Lord’s righteous acts and so losing a sense of genuine devotion to Him. Although they tried to buy God’s favor with ritual sacrifices, God’s primary demand was for justice, mercy, and humble obedience.

Jesus made a very similar statement in statement in Matthew 22:37-39 when asked what was the most I portent commandment. He replied love God and love your neighbor as yourself. These are the only commandments we need to live a righteous life. Think about it. Presented with any moral question you could simply ask yourself, ”if I do this will it interfere with my loving God or others.”

Not long ago there was a movement called WWJD. It was on t-shirts, bracelets, hats and other items. What Would Jesus Do was the question. Let me tell you what he would do. He would love God with all his heart, mind and soul. Then he would love everyone as himself. So, what do you think you should do WSYD?
